Overall, the Canadian labour market was little changed in May with a modest loss of 17K (-0.1%) jobs. Employment growth has moderated in recent months with monthly increases averaging 33K from February to April.
After holding steady at 5.0% for five months, the unemployment rate rose to 5.2%. This was the first monthly increase in nine months (since August 2022).
